Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition
Originally launched in 1999 by Team17, Worms Armageddon achieved significant success. Remarkably, the game may be poised for a return 25 years after its initial launch. The Taiwanese classification body has listed Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition across major platforms including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch on their website.
What are your favourite memories of playin Worms Armageddon?
I named all of the worms on my team Shake and Bake, Bake and Shake, etc.
At one point in time, I downloaded a ton of Austin Powers sound bites and used them for all the voice lines
Me and my friend had a handshake agreement to only use the grappling hook once instead of zipping around the entire map with it since we were both too good with it. Actually I am amazed that our friendship survived this game given we were both way too intense
I wish the Holy Hand Grenade would show up in more video games, regardless of whether or not it would even make sense for it to be there
HALLELUJAH! 💥
So many good memories of the hot seat multiplayer on my Windows 95 machine.
The FOSS game hedgewars was better IMO.
@j4k3@lemmy.world I played Hedge wars sooo much back in the days

It’s been a few years but I remember some unofficial patches that improved the game for modern times.
I think the version you can play on Steam might include these, it certainly seems to run really well. I wonder what if anything this new version adds?
I was first introduced to the original Worms through a demo that came with a PC magazine. I spent way too many hours playing that simple demo, but it really sold me on the concept of worms.
When Worms 2 came out, I bought it and I was blown away at it being such a massive improvement over the original. I think it was probably the first game that I spent a significant amount of time playing online. I even made custom sound packs based around some of my favorite shows, and I would customize my team names around them.
Then Worms Armageddon came out. I was so hyped for the next generation of Worms, so I bought it immediately. And then… Well I have to say I felt disappointed. While it was certainly an improvement over Worms 2, with a few new weapons and some single player content, it really felt like more of an expansion than a whole new game. But alright, it is what it is, and I continued playing because it was still a fun game.
And then Worms World Party came out. I thought that surely this must be the next big evolution in the Worms franchise. So once again I bought it. And god damnit, it felt like they had once again sold me the same damn game with a fresh coat of paint. And that’s how I came to stop loving the Worms franchise.
My buddies and I would play on the Playstation (2?) and I got very very good at ninja roping across the map to drop dynamite on someone’s head and swing back to safety in time.
Nothing more I loved than that maneuver, except maybe getting a concrete donkey.
We used to install this on school computers along with island: a game of survival, and a counterstrike clone, and then all them flash games
So much time spent RR online as a kid.
Similar genre, but I liked Warheads
There is also Arcanists 2. It’s like Worms, but every match is different because you choose your own inventory of weapons.
