Imagine a world where billionaires having petty arguments result in functionality being remotely removed from your $40,000 device…
TL;DW: Disney decided to cease advertising on X (formerly Twitter) and not long after, the Disney+ app was removed from many owners’ Tesla vehicles. Users who have already used the app shouldn’t be affected by this, however those who haven’t will no longer have access to this functionality.
This video follows on the heels of GM announcing removal of CarPlay and Android Auto from their future vehicles, indirectly reducing the freedom granted to vehicle owners of what they can run on their infotainment system. Running apps that provide traffic warnings and additional functionality will be no more, likely paving the way for more unnecessary subscription addons - and even situations like this where functionality can just be taken away without warning

Yeah, we don’t have to imagine. It’s happening all the time. Shit service from streaming platforms, awful social media services. The very politics of our democracy. The media.
It’s all dick measuring, all the time.
True, it seems we live in an oligarchy.
No one less than former US President Jimmy Carter has said as much
Idk I’ve said it and I’m far less than that legend.
Seems
This is an inevitability when economic power is functionally political power. It bleeds our democracy out and hurts everyone (including the billionaires - not that I’m inclined to care and their willfully self-inflicted suffering).
Anyone remembers the spats between Google and Amazon that resulted in the YouTube app being removed from Amazon Fire sticks temporarily?
I just found out yesterday that you can’t cast from a pixel to a fire stick. It was the first time I tried and I thought it was broken. Nope, just Google being petty.
Genuine question, is it Google being petty or Amazon not supporting the protocol?
The chromecast protocol is not open, it is just built into android so available to all apps (for now…) And only chrome on PC supports it (surprise!)
A car where the manufacturer can remotely remove features at a whim?
Not in my drive way.
Isn’t like virtually every car gets OTA updates nowadays? You can have them offline, but then that you can do to a Tesla too.
GM is gonna end up backpedaling so hard once they realize how important these apps are to car owners.
The first feature I review nowadays when car shopping is the infotainment systems integration with my phone. (Mostly because Google took away my ability to use my phone as the navigation system)
I’m not alone on this. Android auto and Apple car play are so much better than the crap the manufacturer makes that it’s not worth looking at a car that can’t do this simple thing. And I’m not about to spend $25k+ and not get what I want.
Does he really not get that the tweet he agreed with was awful and anti-semitic? Can he not understand on some level why Disney and the others stopped advertising? The way he lashed out makes me think he really doesn’t get it. He’s a petty bully with delusions of persecution.
He gets it just fine. He just doesn’t give a shit.
in Australia he’s generally referred to as a ‘shit cunt’
Imagine being mad that your car doesn’t stream Netflix anymore. /s
First world problems.
Like it or not, that’s part of the solution to longer refueling stops. Everyone has to wait in their cars at some point, so why not get some ise out of the hardware while waiting. EV owners occasionally need to wait longer for a recharge, so here’s a great way to make it less frustrating
I preferred it when Louis was bent over a laptop PCB, showing you components on a microscope.
