After many years of having the screen mounted in the cockpit instead of on the wheel
Finally, the drivers will be able to play Angry Birds while they race.
Floppy bird will open up automatically when you’re in a pit stop.
Well, if one needs a magnifier to read the display it ain’t much good, is it? /s
What do you mean small? It’s a $200 plasma display.
End of an era!
ALBON: I just feel, like for my career development, it would be good if Williams did stuff in an industry standard way… Not that I’m thinking of leaving! I know that Williams is a family and as your best driver I’m kind of the “cool uncle”, which comes with a lot of responsibility. And continuity is important.
However between you and me, I think we both know I won’t be here forever, either the team will outgrow me or I will outgrow the team… either way it would be good to have the screen in the steering wheel… Even for the next guy. Not that I’m leaving of course.
But just in case.
I always thought despite the wheel previously being an obstruction there was an advantage to it being fixed. When in full lock and in a tight turn, you could still see the wheel easily. Arguably you’re meant to be focused on the apex but still, upside down data is useless.
I’m not 100% sure about how it was mounted, but I wondered whether the wheel would partially cover the fixed screen previously when turned
Yeah could be much of a muchness between the two methods of mounting if it did obscure when in full lock.
Maybe they will finally get Kubica his custom steering wheel!
