Monotheism is a better means of political control over the peasantry when there is no separation of emotional and logical governance. Without monotheism, any government is subject to radical populist movements that are much more difficult to preempt. There must be a hierarchical structure or common culture with a loose governing structure that logic can influence or there will be instability IMO.

Without any of the Abrahamic faiths, I think we would be 500-1k years in the future right now.

I roleplayed this with a Mixtral 8×7B and it couldn’t come up with very plausible reasons to doubt this. That is not saying a whole lot, but it thought the spread of Confucianism across the world in place of the Abrahamic faiths would have accelerated progress much faster as well.
