If Smith brings mandamus against Cannon and the 11th Circuit turns it down, I will personally see it as our nation having crossed a line that cannot be uncrossed. Whether we’re there yet I don’t know, but that’s my line in the sand: in a clear cut prosecution case without legal ambiguity, there is obvious judicial misconduct, obvious ignorance and/or deliberate misinterpretation of the law by the judge, and mandamus is the specific judicial remedy. If the 11th doesn’t grant it, after having already pushed back hard on her shitty Trump rulings before, I think we’re past the point of no return.
We just have to hope their conservative bias doesn’t go so far as a fascist takeover. The Bush years were bad but not on this level of corrupt.
