Police departments report to the mayor. The President can deploy the National Guard to break up protests, like Trump did in Portland and DC. For the President to direct local law enforcement, they’d first need to declare a National Emergency.

Yeah and I totally get where they’re coming from. I still understand it’s a bad thing but I do understand it. It’s easy to see all the problems and just want to burn it all down.
