Halo 2 is a video game released in 2004. It is the sequel to Halo 1, a game made by Bungie and released in 2001.     Halo 1 was only for PCs (at release) and didn’t support local split screen play.

    Halo 2 added local split screen multiplayer, and needed to run on console hardware.

    I assume one, or both, of those factors made the difference.

    I, personally, didn’t notice, because I played Halo 1 with the graphics scaled down so my humble gaming PC could run it.
