How bad is your registration system if you allowed 6500 noncitizens onto your voter roles? I’m not sure you should be boasting
Right? What fucking kind of win is this?
Hey everyone look I claimed to fix a problem that either didn’t exist or was vastly overstated and to the extent it did exist it was due to my own incompetence!!
See no one cares.
Unfortunately, the base he’s speaking to, is rabidly cheering him on and congratulating him.
People tend to forget, these announcements are meant for us. They are meant for their cultists and they work.
even funnier from the article:
“His office then edited the press release after publication, softening it by adding the word “potential” before noncitizens.”
Which means he knows he removed citizens. Which is illegal. I’m assuming he’s lawyering up now.
His lawyer is AG Paxton, who is somehow a worse person than Abbott
I mean, you COULD make that assumption. It also just sounds like “we just removed people. citizens? Illegals? Who knows?” Incompetence
In many areas, non-citizens are allowed to vote in local elections. They may not be eligible to vote in federal elections, but some states allow all residents. not just citizens, to vote in local and/or state elections. So non-citizens being on the voter rolls is normal and expected, they just have to be tracked separately from the citizens that can vote in every election.
I don’t know about Texas specifically), but removing non-citizens from voter rolls in those areas simply because they’re non-citizens could actually be illegal. Although, that would of course be a state law, and thus us to the State’s AG to prosecute, not likely in these hypocritical states.
There’s also the entirely likely possibility that these “noncitizens” are actually citizens entered into the voter rolls incorrectly by the State at some point in the past, meaning whatever proof they used at the time, wasn’t recorded. There is something going through the courts in AZ currently related to a group of registered voters from like 20+ years ago that either pre-dated that information being recorded, or the information is now missing for whatever reason. And of course the Republicans want them removed as close to the election as possible so there isn’t enough time to verify citizenship before the election, instead of going through that at any point in the last 2 years when there was plenty of time to properly verify and correct the missing info.
I wouldn’t have responded to some random letter asking if I’m a citizen either
I wouldn’t respond directly to the letter, either, but you bet I would march off to whoever administers elections where I am and make sure nobody un-registered me. I shouldn’t have to, but I would anyway.
Im boosting and upvoting this which is somewhat of a rarity for me. I thought about pasting the article text but its long and the site (well with no script) is clean. This article is just wow. million people removed for what he claims is thousands are non citizens of which hundreds had voted and the press followed up on many removed and they were citizens. Appears non citizens are people removed who were sent letters about it and did not respond. That was the criteria. I.E. (at least in my mind) many of these poeple moved and did not up date their registration and likely did not get the letter.
Sounds like a reverse “Noncitizensayswhat” strategy.
What?
… Damn, you got me
His office then edited the press release after publication, softening it by adding the word “potential” before noncitizens.
GOP are liars and exaggerators.
In other words black people.
Don’t forget the brown ones! And anyone with a D near their name…
Abbot needs to sit on a splintery post and start spinning
