What a backstab… I though Xiaomi was one of the few companies with somewhat proper phones (after installing custom roms, like xiaomi.eu)…
They had 2-3 Android One phones which might have tricked you. But the program is dead in a ditch.

LG used to do this in the US. I remember my G Pad 8.3 not being able to get Android 4.4 because of an error that “Device is suspected in rooting.[sic]”

Avoid data leak my arse, stable user experience? They must be high. Users are the first line of security and why do they care when they had already made sale. HyperOutrageousShite. I bet some of their employees had root binaries on their device.
