What a backstab… I though Xiaomi was one of the few companies with somewhat proper phones (after installing custom roms, like xiaomi.eu)…
They had 2-3 Android One phones which might have tricked you. But the program is dead in a ditch.

LG used to do this in the US. I remember my G Pad 8.3 not being able to get Android 4.4 because of an error that “Device is suspected in rooting.[sic]”
