The White House on Monday sounded the alarm that it will run out of money to provide weapons to Ukraine in its fight against Russia without congressional action by the end of the year.
In a letter to congressional leaders, Office of Management and Budget director Shalanda Young wrote the government is “out of money—and nearly out of time” to continue giving aid to Ukraine. The White House pleaded with Congress to act on a supplemental funding request first submitted in October, arguing it is of critical importance to U.S. national security.
“I want to be clear: without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from U.S. military stocks. There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment. We are out of money—and nearly out of time,” Young wrote.
They’ll want to keep it going as long as possible for the benefit of arms manufacturers who spend millions on lobbying and bipartisan campaign contributions. Apparently Russia was willing to end the war in Spring 2022 if Ukraine agreed not to seek NATO membership, but the US pressured them in to declining the offer to negotiate.
Russia can end the war whenever they want, all they need to do is fuck off

…as if Ukrainians don’t have the capacity to think for themselves. Putin/Russian wouldn’t give actual security guarantees on their end. It would also have required changing the constitution. Also after seeing the horrors of the war, they weren’t ready to just roll over.
They weren’t ready to roll over but Russia is ready to continue the atrocities. The war isn’t exceptional in a historical sense and these types of conflicts almost always end in negotiations after one of the belligerents no longer sees it worthwhile to devote resources to drain the resources of the other. Not a good thing but we shouldn’t make exceptions as if this will be a big happy ending that western involved nations are building towards. That never really happens it’s just the mythology of WW2’s “good war” infects the public dialogue around war.
