I’m really interested to see how they’re going to region lock this. Will it be where the device was sold? Does that comply with EU regulations? Will it be geographical location? If I move to the US, will it lock the side loaded apps? If I grab a VPN can I side load things?
I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the country where the SIM originates. A prepaid eSIM from an EU carrier (as secondary sim) is pretty cheap though and might work if this is what they do.
Only the cellular iPads have the eSIM. The standard WiFi ones do not. Since iOS covers both of these devices, older models, and folks who choose not to have a carrier despite having the ability to do so, I don’t believe this would be a partial solution at best.
As someone who switched from android to ios two years ago, I’m still frustrated with just how much of a shit the user experience is. Going back to lineageos as soon as I’m able and throwing this iphone crap in the trash.
Are you sure about tracking? Because I can only compare to my pixel and my Motorola but I only need to go to three places to turn off things while Iphone I have to go to 5.
I could install other keyboard but it is already built in. I just want a toggle to enable it. But just for curiosity sake do you feel it goes, quite quickly to type a sentence with,?
Might have to start importing all my tech from the EU at this rate.
I’m sure Apple will heavily region-lock this.

Yeah I’m curious too. There doesn’t seem like there is a good way.

Interesting thought! This wouldn’t work for iPads and iPhones with no sim (but use WiFi) though
Any recent iPhone/iPad will support eSIM. It would work just fine for them.

An eSIM still requires an account with a carrier, which is optional when you setup a new phone.
Yes, but you can just contact an EU company that provides eSIMs and get one.
Be sure not to import any malware.
“Protecc me daddy Apple, I don’t know what I’m doing! Lock me up real good!”
You mean, beside crapple itself? 😁
You mean, besides crapdroid itself? 🤪

What don’t you like
for one, it drives me nuts that I can’t have separate volumes for the ringer and notifications.
I’ll give you that. I would enjoy that feature, but it’s not something that would make me choose Android.
Keyboard lack symbol button on first page. Instead I have to switch to next page. For a ? mark.
App launcher. Can I select what apps go where? No if they decided that this app goes in that category tough luck.
Apple translate, the texts needs to fit on the sign! You can’t zoom or anything unless you take a picture.
No Bluetooth transfer.
Lack of foss apps.
So many places you need to turn off if you don’t want your phone give you suggestions or track you.
Keyboard, I can see how that would be annoying if you wanted it. You can install other keyboards.
The launcher is stupid, I agree.
Transfer is done via AirDrop
Tracking: Each manufacturers flavor of Android will have the same thing. (Unless you don’t use the OS that came with the device)
Airdrop don’t work with non IOS.

No need to fight, they’re both trash.
You mean best apple design hardware backdoor. Lol
I’m sure android has something simular to be honest
