Frankly I don’t even trust the ‘liberal’ justices to get this right. There is absolutely no reason for nine lawyers with no medical background to make a ruling that will impact the availability of life-saving medical treatments for one of our most vulnerable populations.

I know you said to avoid the “just don’t connect it” advice, but I frankly think that’s your best bet without shelling out absurd amounts of money. I hate the concept of smart TVs, so like you I tried to find a reasonably priced dumb TV. Had zero luck. Instead, I bought a 55” Hisense TV (U8K) about 6 months ago, and have never once connected it to the internet. I think it’s technically a Google TV, but I wouldn’t know, since I just connect my devices to it, no internet necessary. It’s a gorgeous display with amazing picture quality. All the features are enabled, nothing was stuck behind an internet-wall. I don’t regret it.
Keep in mind, this enhanced program lasted only six months (if I’m doing my math correctly) and resulted in these mental health improvements, on top of all the other benefits of not having a country full of starving children. All it took was six months. Imagine what a properly compassionate social safety net would do for everyone?
The republicans who prevented the program from being extended have once again shown a crass lack of compassion and empathy. They should be ashamed of themselves, though of course they won’t be.

The Onion was recently bought, and the new CEO is a well-regarded former disinformation reporter. Literally a journalist who reported on fake news, is now running the world’s preeminent fake newspaper. Only the Onion could make that work. There have been some great interviews with the new CEO, he seems to really give a shit about the company.

I’m so conflicted, because I tend to automatically sympathize with most defendants since the system is so often stacked against them. Trump has turned that upside down. Never thought I’d cheer for a prosecutor…
Yeah, I could see it as a conflict if she only appointed him after they started dating, but Willis testified vehemently that they only started their relationship after she appointed him. She said the witness who claimed otherwise was either lying or misremembering. I guess it comes down to who should be believed, and while I would never blindly believe any officer of the state, I think she has more credibility than Trump and his defense team.
This is one of those examples that we can all point to for why Trump’s behavior as a corrupt mob-style boss is not just bravado, and anyone who tells you it is is either ignorant or has an ulterior motive.
There is no conflict of interest here, and I also firmly believe there isn’t even an appearance of a conflict of interest. A Georgia lawyer can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe there’s a specific statue that spells out that it is acceptable for a married couple to be on opposing sides of a trial. It was determined that’s entirely fine. So how could it be that two prosecutors, who happen to be fucking, while working on the same side of a trial have a conflict of interest? What, they know how each other look naked, so that gives them some legal advantage over their platonic opposition? It just doesn’t track.
I mean…
If the government can take away the right to basic reproductive healthcare for half the population, there’s no reason they couldn’t do it for the other half. They likely wouldn’t, because the right wingers obviously believe men deserve more rights than women, but let’s not underestimate the government’s capacity for making terrible policy in furtherance of some fantastical pseudo-purity culture that only exists in their minds.

I completely agree. It’s why I’ve never been on the apps, how could I possibly trust them when they clearly don’t want to succeed at their function? It’s also probably why I’ve been single for years…

I agree her behavior is abhorrent and she needs to feel some consequences, and I totally understand your sentiment, but violence isn’t going to help, nor will violent language. That’s what they do. We need to stay above reproach when it comes to threatening political violence. Just about anything short of violence is okay in my book. Civil disobedience? Absolutely. Sustained protest? Yes please. Harm to property? All good with me. But threats of personal violence need to stay off limits.
Dems need to grow spines and be more willing to fight dirty politically. They need to take some pages from the right wing book, but leave all the chapters about violence unread.

You’re totally right about the SEO industry. My comment wasn’t meant as an endorsement of SEO, I agree it’s one of the internet’s most fundamental problems. I’m just so frustrated by how consistently google lies about these things. Their first impulse, in so many different situations, is to immediately tell a bald-faced lie, then double down on the lie, and then when the truth comes out, they somehow always seem to get a pass. That’s what’s despicable to me.
But it did expose all the lies google has been telling about SEO and how it works with their algorithm. Basically all the times google was asked “so are you sure you don’t do x, y, or z to prioritize certain sites?” They said no, emphatically, despite some very clever folks who had a pretty good idea of how things were working based on independent tests and experiments on SEO. So google was lying all along, while trying to convince the experts that what they were seeing wasn’t real. Pretty despicable if you ask me.
It’s a very short piece, but the gist is that the noise Trump is making about the guilty verdict is proportional to his level of fear about the potential consequences. But that ultimately his supporters have already decided that they prefer him over our justice system.
We need to call him a rapist as often as possible. He has done some truly awful shit, but on a basic human level I think this is the worst. He was found by a court of law to have raped a woman. And based on Stormy Daniel’s latest account of their weird consensual sex, Carroll was almost certainly not the only person he raped.
