  • Heart of Alabama, and in the interest of validating what I thought I knew… I just learned I’m not getting power through the same service as the person who advised me against renewables.
From what I was told, the Central Alabama Electric Cooperative is not a joy to work with, and, according to this person their monthly bill increased after installing solar due to having a different rate agreement. I had thought they were on with Alabama Power, but now that I’ve realized otherwise I guess it’s time I look into what their policies are.

As for waiting or not, I’m hoarding my pennies in another state until I get it livable and can move in the house, current plan is once it’s remotely livable to quit my job and move then get a loan to finish things out and live off before I have to start a job there. If I find out the cost offset can make an impactful difference in as little as a few years I’d definitely be interested but I know most cost recuperation is a long term investment. I just can’t escape the desire for a spinney tower topper though lol.

  • Cool, yeah I’ll be looking up and double checking with any load changes. I’d never gave any thought to noise, thanks for the suggestion.

As far as solar, I’m planning to wait until I can afford a proper setup to start shopping ideas. Current priority is getting electricity, plumbing and an interior for the house which is probably 2~3 years out at this point.

Getting an idea for if the tower should come down or not during this time period is where I’m at now, I think having a tower is cool as hell personally but everyone who stops by asks how I plan to take it down since it’s antiquated…
