I agree. I’m not trying to say no one made art in 10000 bc. I’m just saying the opportunities became more abundant for people to focus most of their time in life on it in more recent times.

I’m not an expert on the subject, but i didn’t see anyone else mention time as a factor. For a long time humans were simply too busy trying to survive. Once civilizations started coming around along with extremely wealthy and powerful people, then more time for leisure, art, and science came. Some of the extremely wealthy people of the past hired artists, mathematicians, scientists, musicians, etc to just live with them and study full time. The expectation was that they would share their work.

I didn’t mention in my original post but the company only hires within, meaning that every single person within the company started at an entry level position, many of them did operate pallet jacks. Every suit that did come and pretend to look like they were working hard did do that job at one point. I think that’s what made it even more infuriating to me

I used to work for Publix, a grocery chain in the south east US. They talk a big game to the new hires that no matter how high up you make it in the company, you’re not too high to do the tasks of the entry level employees. You’ll even see the CEO in some of the stores in Lakeland, Florida. I’ve always felt it was for show because all you’ll ever see anyone in a management position do is bag groceries. There could be a dozen other tasks that need doing that would take priority, but don’t worry, you have time to do those things because the guys making 6 figures are on bagger duty.

I’d argue it’s the advertisers and their hosts that are fooling you. Though I’m sure they’d be happy to know your stance on their practices.

Absolutely. If they charge me money before I get that hotdog in my hand, then I’m all for it. If they try to put an ad flyer in my other hand as they give me the hotdogs, im not going to hold onto it. Alas the hotdog is already in my hand

Why do you think it is the responsibility of the user to fund youtube’s server costs? Youtube is free. If it wasn’t, it would require a login with presumably a subscription fee like Netflix or Max. Youtube’s work around is to push ads and offer a subscription for an ad free experience. They created a problem for their users, then offered a paid solution. Many people accept that mainly because they either don’t know how to block ads from their end (or cant), or like you they think they owe youtube something. There is nothing unethical about choosing what information is downloaded onto your hardrive from the web.

Not sure what adblocker has to do with piracy, but the right to use adblocker is an even easier argument to make. I don’t see why anyone shouldn’t be able to parse through files downloaded from an http request however they want. I doubt most people read every bit of text from every web page they visit, why make an exception for ads? That’s like feeling obligated to reading every bit of junk mail that makes it way into your mailbox after you sign up for a new credit card.

I’ve not seen many pirates say that they expect companies to roll over and give them stuff. The biggest push for piracy I’ve seen is because companies refuse to sell their products. It’s all licenses to use which can be revoked at any time. Many people aren’t interested in licenses and since there is no legal way to actually purchase most games or movies, that just leaves pirating.

The closest Walmart to me has about a dozen or so self checkout tills and there is usually a line of 20 people waiting to get to them. There’s 3 cashiers that are there to badge the machines when they need to check ID for alcohol or override the machine if you double scan an item. I love self checkouts in other stores but Walmart has always been infuriating.

Splinter Cell is another that is stealth based. It can be much more tedious than ghost recon, but has a lot more options for being stealthy.

I thinks it’s weird when people choose to make their online profiles open to the public then get upset when people view their content.

I think its a valid example though. Sometimes poor people can save up to go out once and splurge on lobster. People tend to post the highlights of their lives on social media. I think the point here is to not buy into it so much

I think the worst thing about their subscription price is that it is very close to the same price as WoW or FF14, but with runescape you can only have 1 character. If you enjoyed a quest or lower level content, you have to create a new account with its own subscription. If you want to try an Ironman or hardcore character, that’s a whole other account and subscription.

I may have to try it again some day. I thought the story and world was interesting and engaging. I played without guides and despite trying to explore and do everything while following the main story line, I soon found myself extremely underleveled to enemies. I thought it was hilarious that each person in the game is assigned a color based on their role in the colony so sometimes you meet someone who is introduced a being “a black”

I really loved playing ps2 military shooters like SOCOM and Conflict Desert Storm. It would be fun to see how those games would be made today.

Trusting that the underpaid and overworked employee is going to deliver a “pretty good” burger from a fast food joint isn’t a gamble many people are willing to make anymore. And I don’t blame those employees at all.
