I was taking control of a big department in a non-profit where funds were tight but I had a lot of flexibility so I read a book about how to reward employees instead of money. I was hoping for non-tangible rewards like first pick of schedule or Employee of the Month type stuff.

Every single suggestion in the book was something that needed money to be spent first but not given to the employee. It had a whole chapter about how giving cash was rude and terrible and your employees would hate you for it so you had to give gift cards or worthless garbage to give them instead.

This was nonsense advice. Nothing motivates like cash. In the end I just taped my own $20 bills to the back of the ‘Certificates of Achievement’ I have for good work and warned them it was a personal gift and not from the org.

If you read the law as written and voted on in Louisiana, it lists 11 Commandments, because there isn’t one list of Commandments that these people can agree on. But they can agree that everyone should be forced to look at them in school?

Just a reminder that even if the core work of the transcribing is done automatically now, being a media accessibility specialist who ensures the transcribing works and it is attached correctly, performs advocacy work for accessibility, and manages these systems, is a worthwhile job and will stay so for a long time.

Nice for you to live somewhere mild enough your car doesn’t need to pre-heat but some people live in Chicago and other places where it still snows and pre-heating the car is a must 3 months of the year.

No, law enforcement told schools that what happened on their property was their problem and that local law enforcement didn’t have time to deal with their problems. It should be very clear that cops retreated from our campuses, schools didn’t shut them out. Colleges and Universities would love for local law enforcement to come patrol the campus and handle assaults and all the rest but literally the cops told us it was too much trouble.

Many modern cars only check for the fob on startup, so you can drive away without the fob but as soon as you turn the car off, you are stuck.

I found this out the hard way by dropping my partner and his keys off at a Dr office and then driving away.

IDK why it doesn’t check for fob before engaging Drive, as would seem sensible.

I have a lot of friends who have a fruit smoothie every morning and wonder why they aren’t losing weight. Bananas, apples, and grapes in particular are to be avoided. Most berries are okay.

Search and Rescue dogs are generally owned and trained by specialized dog trainers, not the cops. The scent-tracking skills for following people are differently trained from drug and explosives detecting dogs Basically a search dog needs to walk towards and follow what they smell, and a detecting dog needs to sit down when they catch a smell so they have different training methods.

Logitech’s desire to put AI in my IO devices is exactly why I am moving to a different manufacturer. I want solid hardware, not hardware as a service. HP also is trying this with printers and it’s total bullshit.

If I am paying a monthly fee, I’d better not also have to buy garbage hardware. That better be provided for free and replaced when it inevitably fails.

My favorite phrase to use in all foreign countries is “Please forgive me, I am American.” It gets a laugh out of almost everyone even when terribly butchered in any language and most people will then attempt English for you.

Except Parisians, who do not care. I think they would prefer I point and grunt to trying either English or my awful French.
