Replying to my own comment because I just stumbled upon uncle Rich doing exactly this on a cheap chinese EV truck.
It’s kind of a fun take on the crappy truck too. youtube link

While most of the points are covered here, and it’s likely true that the cost to add the panel and micro inverters is high, (I built a small two panel one battery off-grid system for about $4000 to power a chest freezer)… I have a counter point that I feel should be considered.
While it’s true that it isn’t going to extend driving range by much, my thought is that it is still worth it. Take these examples:
Drove to great wolf lodge in the summer, left car in parking lot for 3 days without charge. It lost several %.
Left car in an airport lot for a week lost even more power.
Drove to NorCal, left car at Airbnb driveway, had to find charging despite the car sitting in very bright sunshine for 4 days.
Car camping
Apartment complex parking (literally one of the main negatives about EVs)
All of these would benefit from trickle charging, even if it was just to prevent the drain of sitting.
Pay wall
Agreed on all points… I’m glad the 5N exists, but it’s not what I want.
I have, and the Ioniq 5 N… they are great… I’m glad they exist, but not what I want.
EDIT: My friend has a bright red Model S plaid, and it was one of the most insane things I’ve ever driven. But being honest with you, The Model 3 Performance was more fun. Which is how I got to this point. Give me a 2-door, rwd over powered sports car. Please and thank you.
I would love this so much… with the RF body cuz I think it looks sexier. Too bad Mazda is basically just anti-ev or rebadging other people’s hybrid platforms.
Sure… great… I’m in the states though, so… 🤷
Sports cars are silly. I know what I want. And it’s a overpowered RWD sports car.
EDIT to add stuff… I already have an AWD ev, and a FWD EV. The FWD is terrible, not only does the high torque overpower the low rolling resistance tires, but… just like an F1 car is crazy over powered, I want appropriate digital nannies, fat tires and all the stuff I had with my previous sports cars and motorcycles.
Stuff like this is starting to make its way into automotive youtubers feeds now. I just saw one where he picked up a Model S P85D for like $10k or something crazy because it was “insurance totaled”. The issue was they’d let the battery die in the lot and some idiots didn’t think to charge it.
Seriously, I just want an EV Sportscar. Give me something Z car sized, RWD and no extras.
I mean, the Kia EV9 seems pretty big. But I think you mean Ford Excursion big… and man… GM has a hummer of a truck for you. Also, no one is buying it.

Skimmed the article, here: "I’ve been a Republican, but now I’m a registered independent. "
Thanks I just uninstalled and used the fdroid sync thing fork
I find syncthing on android wrecks my battery. How have you been using it that doesn’t do this?
Perfect, no notes.
K… This is just not true. Plenty of AAA games run well on the steam deck. Currently installed on mine, RDR2, cyberpunk 2077, horizon zero dawn, Forza horizon, uncharted legacy of thieves, the last of us, and for funsies I just started another fallout 4 playthrough. I’m sure others have lots of other AAA games they play on their deck.
If it’s the exclusives you’re missing, like Gran Turismo or something, I think that’s a different argument.
I didn’t realize pip and venv didn’t work… that’s a pretty big deal breaker for a lot of people, myself included.
I just installed fedora 40. Was absolutely amazed when my three monitors just worked. Installed some games and realized I had forgotten to install the Nvidia drivers. Installed them… Laptop locked up wouldn’t boot. Unplugged the third monitor and it started working. Screw Nvidia. Not buying another system with their trash. Fix your driver’s you selfish POS
Or just use the clothes dryer circuit… Charge the car overnight… Get all the range.
