Youtube is apparently testing locking the content behind a login. multiple projects (including video downloaders, alternative front-ends, and so on) have been experiencing issues in the past few days.

not automatically, but it’s fairly uncomplicated. you click on the extension icon and then a reload button next to the service that you’re accessing, and it’ll try accessing the page through another instance.
