  • I’m a fairly recent convert to Linux (currently trying out Fedora). I thought GNOME was trash and I didn’t get why anyone used it until I realized that the nvidia kernel wasn’t loading any it was defaulting back to noveau.

Fixed that problem and now all the DEs that I’ve tried seem beautiful and fast, including GNOME.

  • Same. I have a low paying white collar job that I don’t enjoy. I thought I would start learning development just in time or AI and then layoffs. It makes me feel really sick and scared for the future.

A lot of posts and videos have been put up about how it will be fine. That AI won’t take jobs and even with the layoffs, they say head counts are still up, but it feels pretty hopeless to me.

I don’t know what else to do, so I’m just going to keep trying and keep pushing myself to be a better dev. Maybe I’ll get there someday.

  • That is exactly what I did. If you Google it, you can find a list of the cheapest countries. Some of the cheaper options didn’t work for some reason related to how payments are processed in those places but I found one that went worked on the 3rd or 4th try.

If I remember right, I was able to use Ukraine. I think Argentina is the cheapest around $1 a month.

I’m happy to pay for product and services I use at reasonable prices. It makes me angry that they can offer this service for much less and still make.
