After reading that I’m still really confused who these cars were stolen from. From the sounds of things, the current owners are losing their newly bought vehicles only for them to get put back on a dealer lot, which is just insane.

Surely by now the original owners have already claimed insurance on their stolen vehicles? The police repossessing them from legal purchasers who were unaware just seems like it’s making the whole situation worse.

I don’t really think Stockholm syndrome applies here. I don’t watch YouTube out of some irrational bond with the platform. I watch YouTube because it’s literally the only place the creators I watch upload. I would absolutely follow the creators I watch to whatever platform the content is available on. Until then, I’m stuck with YouTube and ad blocking extensions.

All the phone image post processing was literally what drove me to buy a Digital Full-frame Mirrorless camera. I know the raw photos coming off that are completely unedited, and I can choose to do any color correction or whatever myself. My previous Samsung phone always seemed to output smeary garbage when taking photos in the forest.

I just recently returned some smart outlets that would only work with my local Home Assistant if my Internet was up, because it all went through some cloud server. Now I’m using a combination of Zigbee and Z-Wave devices, which all connect to a local hub I have on battery backup. Now everything keeps working even if my power and Internet go out.

*Caveat: Wireless protocols could need updating too, but at least nobody’s going to recruit my Zigbee devices into a botnet. Worst case my neighbor figures out how to turn my lights on and off.

The laundry machine in my rental still has the buzzer, but I usually just set a timer on my phone or watch anyway. This thing will probably last another 20 years, and my landlord certainly won’t replace it until it breaks.

You just described every problem I’ve ever had with my Bluetooth headphones… I’m just about ready to throw them out because I take meetings constantly, and somehow my headphones are never connected to the right thing…

I agree with you for the most part, but when the “person” in charge of the LLM is a big corporation, it just exaggerates many of the issues we have with current copyright law. All the current lawsuits going around signal to me that society as a whole is not so happy with how it’s being used, regardless of how it fits in to current law.

AI is causing humanity to have to answer a lot of questions most people have been ignoring since the dawn of philosophy. Personally I find it rather concerning how blurry some lines are getting, and I’ve already had to reevaluate how I think about certain things, like what moral responsibilities we’ll have when AIs truely start to become sentient. Is turning them off and deleting them a form of murder? Maybe…

Personally I still use the Firefox + uBlock + SponsorBlock + YouTube combo on my phone too. Maybe if I watched more YouTube on my phone it’d be worth figuring out an app with a better mobile UI, but I like that it’s a consistent experience anywhere I watch from.

If you’re implying that an essential service should be managed by a private company instead of the government, I’d like you to take a look at the other services we have that are privatized… Like Internet providers and healthcare providers. People are dying because saving them is not profitable. And Comcast absolutely will throttle your connection for their own benefit.

If the Internet archive ever became for-profit, it would absolutely ruin the value of it to the public.

If you’re already deleting all your cookies every time you close, then this new change should be identical to your first login of the day when your browser has no cookies. If you’re only getting 2fa requests after this change, then maybe you weren’t actually deleting every cookie, and Google was still fingerprinting you somehow.

This wouldn’t make you have to log in every time you watch YouTube. It means by signing in to google.com, youtube.com can’t tell that you’re signed in. If you sign in on youtube.com, you’ll stay signed in on youtube.com unless you have something else deleting your cookies.

I’m upgrading from no TV, and I expect it to last me at least 10 years or I’ll be very disappointed.
