I like the concept of the iOS/Android app BeReal. Your app tells you randomly during the day that you have to take a combined picture (frond and back camera). So you don’t have much time to prepare. Then this pic is uploaded and friends who follow you can see it.

Wouldn’t that be cool to have this also as a part in the Fediverse, so with open source technology and dezentralized. What do you think? Maybe there are already plans to build such a thing. I would love to see this! 🤩 Anybody else?

It’s one of the dumbest app idea. Having a system dictating when you should post a photo

I mean, it’s only dumb for people who aren’t interested.

The world is full of things that I’d hate that other people love. That doesn’t make them dumb. To each their own, you know?

Chilli in ice cream, I mean wtf?

An app for attention whores? I don’t see the Linux community building something like that.

As a group we aren’t the most photogenic bunch.

O don’t think this is a shower thought so much as a really really stupid app idea.

Idk why the app idea seems so uninteresting to so many. I really like the concept. It encourages to share an actual slice of life instead of the most perfectly crafted peek into the most fun activity you’re doing. I enjoy using BeReal with the few friends I added on there. It’s more of an “inner circle of close friends” rather than “add any acquaintance” type of social media.

This is bizarre. My friends wouldn’t want random interruptions throughout the day and neither do I.

Follow? I don’t follow anyone, that seems so shallow …

Edit: but to be fair, we all like different things. Foss is about scratching you own itch, so if you feel you want an app like this (seems easy enough to do) you can always make it yourself.

OP wants FOSS BeReal, it’s all there in the title. There is no rule against having a body to the post. I agree that I would be disappointed if showerthoughts was only people’s product ideas.

If this type of post became commonplace we could make a rule trying to avoid spam. How would you word the rule? “No promotion of products or product concepts” that might work. Rules have side effects so I would want to look back through old posts to see if it would hurt quality posts.

This post did get two reports. Reports are not super down votes, things need to break rules for me to pull them, I try to be objective. As always I’m open to discussion.

I did giggle about commenter below that is sometimes old. Silver linings.

Or maybe we could have a rule like “Any post that’s greater than 12hrs old and has less than 30% approval gets removed” I like this because it gives voting more power for shaping the community and it’s objective.
