If I could have one wish for the new year, it would be for Britain’s criminal justice system to be reformed in a way that would ensure the arrest, prosecution and conviction of every single rapist in the country. I do not mean, of course, any man accused of rape, but every man who has actually committed rape.
One of the most prevalent and persuasive myths about rape and sexual assault is that a large number of allegations are false and men who have been publicly accused of rape but could not be convicted in a court of law are the victims of grave miscarriages of justice.
And I wish a billion dollars would materialize in my living room, but unfortunately we both live in the real world.
A billion is too much, but a million pounds is quite a reality with premium bonds.
Despite such shockingly high figures, there is still a presumption that many women make false allegations about male violence – in particular, rape
And shame on the people who keep disseminating this myth.
The problem is that the studies that show these numbers are brutal.
I’ve read them.
Most of the time their logic is “if the victim gives enough details, then it’s not false”
Or
“This cross examination of multiple studies shows that the studies all came to the same result” except that the studies all used the same methodology soo…… that doesn’t really prove anything.
I’m not saying they’re right or wrong, I’m saying that the studies themselves are brutally flawed.
I’m open to being wrong though, show me a study or any numbers that can conclusively prove what the actual stats are. Because to the best I can tell, there’s no good method to discover what percentage are true or false.
But maybe I’m wrong?

No, I’ve just lived long enough to see through some of the narratives people push.
As I said, I’m open to the idea that I may be wrong, I can’t really know for sure, and I haven’t seen anything terribly convincing in either direction.
