Who gets to collect revenue from the fees though? Where do you draw the line, are you cutting off independent journalism?

Eh that is a thing for paranoid parents. Your family meets with a bunch of other families in a parking lot and the kid can go from trunk to trunk collecting candy. Prevents axe murderers from putting razor blades in the candy or whatever. It certainly hasn’t replaced trick or treating overall but it does seem more common.
Just block em. By blocking a half dozen politics subs and a dozen or so chronically online leftist agendaposters I’ve really cleared the air. Makes the experience a lot more enjoyable. :)
Have you considered that some people actually get tired of the constant vitriol and negativity that accompany internet politics, even if you generally align with the prevailing opinions? Also god forbid you are actually centrist or conservative and want to be able to look at memes and tech news in peace without being reminded about The Illegitimate Colonizer State of Israel for the ten millionth time
Practically speaking that seams to have the same meaning
I guess everyone’s a Nazi when you’re an edgy leftist
-I doubt many conservatives are buying cybertrucks. Much more so libertarians, rich nerds and crypto bros
-Even if they were right wing, intimidating/harassing/attacking someone for driving the wrong kind of EV is laughable and plays right into the narrative of the “intolerant left”
Its also kind of the latest stupid thing for people to attack. Is it ugly, obnoxious and pretentious? Yes. But are you seriously suggesting that bad things should start happening to Cybertruck owners to keep people from driving them?
Yeah except OP already said they don’t use Google anymore, presumably because they got fed up with it. As the expression goes, pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered. If Google has bogged down the web search experience so much that people are defecting then they’ve gone too far.
You can also add an extension for firefox/ ff mobile. Search for udm14 and you’ll find it. Keep in mind this also kills things that are more useful like sports schedules, calculator, time in different cities etc. that Google does automatically. So if I want that I just open an incognito tab to bypass the extension.
I think this is a misquote. I’ve seen thing like this before and it’s supposed to say “things that don’t require TALENT”
I generalize ofc but those are definitely the prevailing viewpoints, which seem contradictory.
They do not exist solely to collect revenue, although they certainly do that as well. They have been proven time and again to reduce speeding and fatalities, as other commenters in this thread have pointed out. As far as using traffic cameras to reduce police forces, I haven’t been able to find that exactly, but there are plenty of examples of deploying traffic cameras to work around a shortage of officers which works out to the same thing.
Lemmy: Fuck cars!
Lemmy: Fuck the police!
Lemmy, when someone sabotages the most viable alternative to traffic stops to prevent people from speeding: Yes very good. This is good for society.
I watch a lot of high speed police chase videos, kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. It’s fascinating stuff. One thing I’ve noticed is that while the State Troopers seem to have a higher level of training, when approaching a vehicle local PD will often just run up on all sides with guns out. So, you hear a lot of “watch the crossfire!” from the troopers. On the side of the road bystanders are rarely a hazard, but the same lack of positioning would surely be a hazard to bystanders in different circumstances. So yes i definitely I agree that police officers need more situational awareness training before they can use lethal force- especially in somewhere as packed as a subway station.
I think “Police shot innocent bystander in the head by accident” accurately captures the situation. The police were the ones who did it, but they didn’t do it on purpose.
Haha are you implying that Lemmy isn’t an echo chamber?
In NBA history, only 1 female player has ever been drafted- Luisa Harris. She did not actually make the team though, or anyways she never played in a game. I don’t quite remember. The door is open for women to play-the NBA does not prohibit it, nor do any of the “men’s leagues”-it just never happens because women are not good enough.
And I hope you never used dial-up internet! That is NOT what phone lines are for.
