I don’t remember it too well, but I highly doubt it was handled well at all. On another occasion, I went as an Indian for Halloween one year*, but my parents were working that day, so I went to Awanas (a sort of church thing if you’re not familiar) for a few hours before trick or treating. Turns out, Awanas doesn’t allow costumes, but let me stay. As the only kid in costume. While the rest of them were super smug about not being in costume, and the main church dude spent the whole time talking about how Halloween is evil. No one even mentioned the racist ass costume I was in.

*Yes. With dark make up. I was 9. That was also the last year I ever dressed up for Halloween. My dad still doesn’t fully get why that wasn’t an okay costume. My mom didn’t understand at the time, but does now.

I was also a hobo one year. Maybe we should start vetting kids Halloween costumes. Or at least mine.

Grew up in Virginia in the 90s and early 00s, and black face was definitely something people knew was racist.

However, my foster brother’s elementary school hosted a costume party for thanksgiving one year, where you had to dress as either a pilgrim or an Indian. :/

That’s what I was thinking. Most of the time when I see these black face photos surface the make up is like super patchy, clearly applied as like a last minute goof.

It’s not the police that keep us from killing each other, or even laws that do so. Check out law and authority sometime if you’re able. It’s very short and worth a read. We don’t kill each other because we don’t enjoy being killed or killing. We’re social creatures, and don’t want to be shunned. Crimes of passion don’t really change based on laws, but the way we organize society may actually be increasing the number of murders, because some people are desperate enough to kill for food or shelter

Depends on what you’re wanting to learn. I’m a fellow tech illiterate noob, but I’ve been off and on with Linux since like 2006. Finally switched full time a few years ago. Honestly, with Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora I’ve found you basically can just set it and forget it, depending on your use case. YouTube has been my best friend whenever I have a problem, normally I type my issue into that before even google. How long have you been using Linux? If you’re still in the distro hopping phase,I suggest trying to swap Desktop environments instead of distros, as it gives you a little experience with the terminal, is well documented on how to do it, and gives you a good idea of what kind of UI you want

The only thing high temps have going for them is a long growing season for the garden and being able to swim.

Since I can’t ever find the time to hit the lake or rivers anymore, I’d be perfectly happy with a green house and becoming more efficient with my planting schedule.

Plus, in the winter I get to wear scarves and jackets with extra pockets. Extra pockets are nice.

Why would armed guards have an impact? These kids that plan on shooting up their schools are planning it as a suicide mission. It’s a super elaborate suicide by cop, taking out as many of their classmates and tormentors, perceived or otherwise, as possible. Armed guards aren’t going to help. Stricter rules on guns and mental fucking health care might, but that would be actually doing something that the vast majority of Americans support, and we can’t do that. If we let people think overwhelming support for something gets it then they may get uppity and start demanding other things, like unions and healthcare
