Would pihole work if all the major DNS that gets pulled resolved the same? I would imagine the change would only work for a while.
Is there such a thing as federated dns servers, self hosted or otherwise? I don’t particularly care about piracy but I can see this dominoing into abortion, lgtq+ ect…ect…
Agreed.
I think that just starting with networking might be the way to go. I mean if someone wants to a market a fedi alternative, they would have a huge advantage on software developers, server hosters, and generally our small communities.
Yep its easier than ever to get into it and even works with games via steam now. My computer runs soo much faster than with windows.
Steam Deck and other Linux handhelds make it super easy to play indies.
Yeah its really too bad. I used to love the company but now I just don’t see them making things for hobbies. Anyone know of some good alternatives? Ive heard good things about lepotato?
You can do the same in mastodon. It’s great.
Why make money once when you can get people hooked on a subscription and pay many times the value?
I wonder sometimes if the numbers are wrong. For example a server I host is up quite a bit in user count and posts, but according to the site the numbers are down considerably. It’s strange but it’s only a less than 20ish users setup. Plus not all federated services act the same.
Some have sub/supersets of the protocol implemented. For example, bookwyrms way of working with posts are wildly different than mastodon and hashtags will work one way and not the other.
I think it ultimately means that number may not be as accurate for a while while all these different servers figure out what it means to be federated.
Not the op but not now by the sound of it.
Lemmy instances are designed to be born and die. So it’s a good thing in my opinion.
That’s true! Lol anyone hiring? My place just started a hiring freeze.
There’s been people talking about making a federated version (of LinkedIn), but I havent seen any actual code written.
I think it has potential, but without enough people wanting to hop on, it will be an empty solution.
My pi costs probably around 20 a year lol.
Fair enough.
reddit is about the same in my opintion, but I do see a lot more activity on the lemmy side. I think its a combination of:
Also to @Blaze@reddthat.com Do you know if the sats above take into account the generally banned instances of lemmy? I know that a lot of instances earlier this year decided to become de-federated from the general fediverse. Do you happen to know if the website take into account those servers?
New tool to help track heat and heat related health issues.
Yeah I’ve been using it for at least a decade now. It’s great.
This is excellent! Thanks. Anyway to self host? I dont want to bog down your system.
GL. The best thing about the fediverse is the creation of new and exciting projects that will come and go.
