My dad tells me it has something to do with Communism and the color pink but I can’t really understand him through his slurred speech three drinks in after Thanksgiving dinner.

To be fair, they’re nothing if not consistent in this view, because they think straight relationships are just about sex as well:

Why do you think they always seperate boys and girls? They think they’re gonna fuck if they’re left alone unsupervised.

What is the purpose of marriage to them? To have children. Which is just a really elaborate breeding kink. It’s about sex.

Why do you think the concept of a man and a woman just being friends is so damn alien to them? Because it’s all. About. Sex. They can’t fathome the notion that two people of the opposite sex won’t tear off their clothes and fuck like animals the moment they’re alone in a room together.

Bigots are the most sex-obsessed people on this planet! And it shows in their actions and their rhetoric.

It’s like thinking that children knowing they have a male and female parent is scandalous.

Not quite. The thing is, gender identities is a complex topic with vastly different (political) opinions. To objectively explain it, you would have to present the different views and how some people believe this and others believe that. However, children don’t do well with these multiple realities, most would most likely ask you “Well, which one is true?”. That, however, is a political opinion.

I therefore think it should be up to the parents to educate their kids in that regard, according to how they see fit, and not up to the institutions, at least not until kids are old enough to reflect about their political views and form their own opinion upon being presented with the topic in an objective way.

Except, one viewpoint is objectively not reality. That’s the whole point of this post, one of the two main political opinions hold the beliefs that:

        • ALL trans women and gay men at pedophiles
        • ALL trans men and gay women are just confused and haven’t found the right husband yet
        • Being trans and transitioning turns you into a sad, pathetic mockery of the other gender who is destined to kill themselves from the shame of it all
        • ALL Queer-adjacent children (under 18) are also confused innocents who have been lead astray by evil forces trying to corrupt the new generation

None of which are true, in case it wasn’t clear. So no, it should absolutely not be left up to the parents to teach, because when that happens, a solid 30% of (American) childeren are “educated” about a complete un-reality that only exists in the minds of hate-filled bigots, and terrifies all us queers back into the closet.

Those “beliefs” are in no way representative of “the other” political opinion. For example, here’s my opinion on the matter (and I disagree with every one of the 4 conservative extremist “beliefs” you posted about) so you can understand what political differences I’m referring to:

          • You can love/marry/have sex with anyone you want to, it doesn’t matter what gender. (Most people would be onboard)
          • There are (maybe appart from people who were born with a different number of chromosomes) 2 genders (already some political disagreement here)
          • Feeling that a gender doesn’t belong to one doesn’t change the gender. Just like feeling like I have blond hair doesn’t change the fact that I have brown hair. (This is were people heavily disagree and you can’t easily present either opinion on this as the sole truth).

It might be important to note that this is not meant as an insult to you or to anyone and it doesnt mean I dont respect trans people.

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this…

Perhaps I have some internalized homophobia, but aside from sex and gender identity, what else is it?

    edit: it’s love

Well, when a man and a woman love each other very much… they can visit each other in the hospital when they’re sick. For example.

I mean I guess it’s love, but it’s who I love, not the just fact that I love. And it’s definitely who I have romantic “love” for, not just any type of love.

I was taught in school about about LGBTQ+ people

In grades 0-4, we were taught that sex isnt the same thing as gender(we werent taught why)

In grade 8, we were taught that the world was ruled by a jew who was tricking kids into making them trans to fix overpopulation(a claim that could easily be disproven by the facts that there are laws against LGBTQ+ people and that for the effort to be effective, a large amount of the population would have to be affected, compared to the basically 0 that live in Romania) and that Hitlers intentions were right(talking about banning LGBTQ+, she said that she didnt agree with the killing)

I will drop this though. The moderate right sees LGBT as a bunch of feminazis trying to force their values on them. The excessive pushing by coorporations only makes that worse. I think it’s important for people on the left to understand why the people who can still be reasoned with think the way they do rather than demonizing them all as both sides do. Both sides see the worst of eachother in their little echochambers creating hostility towards something that youd likely agree on if both sit down for an openminded conversation.

Coorporations, media and government take advantage of this to the fullest extent and throw fuel on the fire while we bicker over superficial bullshit. And lemmy is also not helping, its pushing people to the extremes of the left.

And no im not saying both sides are equal, i’m saying both sides misconstrue the other, which pushes people on both sides to a false narrative about the other resulting in more division.
