Two juveniles were charged with crimes connected to the mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally, authorities said Friday, as the city tries to recover in the aftermath of the violence.
A news release from the Jackson County Family Court said the juveniles were charged Thursday and are being detained in the county’s Juvenile Detention Center “on gun-related and resisting arrest charges.” The release said it is “anticipated that additional charges are expected in the future as the investigation by the Kansas City Police Department continues.”
No further information was released. Juvenile court cases are largely kept private under Missouri law, and hearings are not open to the public.
Police initially detained three juveniles but released one who they determined wasn’t involved in the shooting. Police are looking for others who may have been involved and are calling for witnesses, victims and people with cellphone video of the violence to call a dedicated hotline.
I’m only a simple minded European, but need to ask if something radical needs to be done to prevent these mass shootings? Crazy thought but gun controls and background checks like those we have here? We have nations with similar or higher gun ownership, but almost no mass shootings.
Lots of stuff needs to be done. Unfortunately, there is no political will to actually do any of it. Unfortunately, the unthinking ideology of a large enough portion of the population trumps the need to address the actual harm done to countless lives as a result of our inaction.
These kids have no emotional control and neither do their parents.
Lots of people in other countries with emotional problems. It’s the access to the guns that’s the problem lol.
No doubt.
99% this was gang violence, and they’re not going though any of that anyways. They’re juveniles and couldn’t own handguns in the first place.
But they got them from somewhere. Could be anywhere, because guns are literally everywhere. Huh, I guess we just can’t do anything about that.
Tell me how you plan on removing 450+ million firearms from civ hands, of which the majority used in crime are illegally owned by criminals.
Buy them up and send them to Ukraine or something, idunno. That’s above my pay grade.
Who’s paying for it? And who’s going to enforce it?
