It’s only nebulous if you listen to lobbyists and corporations. Many people still know what it actually means to buy something.

It’s a bit wild how petty Bethesda comes off as. It’s like they’d rather spend a bunch of money to convince people their games are still good instead of, you know, trying to make good games.

It’s hard to do that officially when a big chunk of users are minors. Neither Twitch nor the streamers of this content want to admit that they make money serving softcore porn to kids. Cause that’d be weird.

They’ll pay by charging customers a reasonable licensing fee. Market standards are meaningless in an age of aggressive monetization and consolidation. Of course they’ll try and get away with as much as they can and people have been shown to excuse a lot. However, I would pose that is entirely unreasonable that providing access to tools earns anyone a portion of future sales.

This very clearly goes beyond paying to improve the services and is simply about maximizing profit.

Why does Unity deserve a cut of the profits from games made with their tools? Seems as ridiculous to me as a maker of power tools demanding a cut of profits from contractors using their products.

In this same vein I actually want Starfield to be even more immersive. When I take off in search of a new planet, I want to leave my computer on for 700 years while my ship travels through space.

Deezer has a smaller catalog, as far as I’m aware. Tried switching, but it’s hard when I have 700 liked songs on Spotify and only a fraction available on Deezer. Liked everything else about them though.

Nobody needs YouTube videos nor is anyone compelled to make them. I’m guessing you don’t remember when YouTube was completely free and people just made videos for fun?

Now people quit jobs that support them to do something fun and try to make monry off that. Which is fine, but we’re not required to support their hobby. Stop acting like people have no other option in their life except to make reaction videos, video essays, meme compilations, etc.

Shit, I didn’t realize the only way some people can eat is by making Youtube videos.

Take a good, long, look at history and realize how absurdly simple it is for people in the right environment to sieze control of a society. It’s not nearly what you clearly imagine it to be nor are the perpetrators required to be smart by any means.

Yeah, I’ve used everything from Ubuntu to Arch and can use it just fine. That’s not my point. It’s hard to argue against that software discoverability is worse and implementation/documentation is inconsistent. To find a program for windows, I just need to search for what it does and multiple options show up without using a store or knowing a repo name. Installing is as easy as running an exe (no dependencies, or distro limitations, or editing specific files buried in the system).

I am no fan of Windows by any means, but I never have to worry about edge cases. I will always be able to do what I’m aiming for without fiddling with Wine or anything else.

I personally enjoy knowing I can easily search for software I need, know it will run and install without issues and I won’t have to fuck around with poorly documented systems when something inevitably breaks.

Sure Windows pisses me off and sucks, but it’s still simpler to deal with.

While this is a reasonable take, it ignores the fact that many modern video games (unlike the other things you listed) are specifically designed to be incredibly addictive while the marketing and PR does everything to belie this fact.

Both things can be true.

How is it that video games are causing dyslexia? That seems like a stretch.
