minus-squarerivvvver@lemmy.dbzer0.comlinkfedilinkarrow-up10·8 months ago Randevu interestingly, thats what the turkish word for rendezvous is. in turkish, words are written exactly as theyre pronounced at all times. just a funny sidenote :3

minus-squaretrolololol@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up2·8 months agoOh they are so smart, just like I don’t know, most countries in the world that don’t prefer imperial units and imperial era spelling (The sarcasm is not directed to turkish though 😁)
minus-squareulterno@lemmy.kde.sociallinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up5arrow-down1·8 months agoHow about Randaevoo ?
minus-squareulterno@lemmy.kde.sociallinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·8 months agoNow even that sounds correct. Just how many different pronunciations doe this word have?
minus-squaretkc@feddit.uklinkfedilinkarrow-up4·8 months agoIts not pronounced randevou though, more like ron-day-voo
minus-squareonion@feddit.delinkfedilinkarrow-up1·8 months ago‘a’ is not pronounced like ‘en’ in french I think it could be spelled rendévou though
minus-squarePeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.calinkfedilinkarrow-up1arrow-down1·8 months agoI’ll grant you the ‘s’ but it’s still more or less pronounced like it’s spelled. You can replace ‘ou’ with ‘u’ but it still sounds right with ‘ou’. English pronunciation in general is fucked up lol. You can never really tell how an ‘e’ or an ‘a’ will be voiced 🤣
minus-squareSludgeyy@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up1arrow-down1·8 months agoE should definitely be an A or even an O. Shouldn’t really have an E. Rän-di-vü TIL the pural for Rendezvous is Rendezvous. You just pronounce the S
minus-squarepancakes@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up4·8 months agoBut sometimes words in English have silent Zs like in the word “rendezvous”.
minus-squareMrBusiness@lemmy.ziplinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·8 months agoRendezvous isn’t even that bad. What really grabs my goat are the pronunciations for colonel and choir.
