Hurr’s investigation is at least related to Biden being in office… but why don’t we let politicians actually pay for their own legal troubles.

Step 1: politicians must pay for their own legal troubles

Step 2: “The Association of Totally Real Concerned Citizens” starts filing lawsuits across the country

Step 3: any non-billionaire elected to a political office is bankrupted within a year

Step 4: surprised yellow rodent face

(Bonus step 5: JB Pritzker becomes president and solves world hunger with deep dish pizza)

      Edit: line breaks

I think it makes sense to protect members of the party who can’t afford it but the biden family has more than enough to cover their own shit, they can cover the legal fees and the dnc can spend it on winning over voters

but why don’t we let politicians actually pay for their own legal troubles.

While Biden’s net worth makes the issue less relevant, to make this as a universal standard would make opposition harassment by frivolous legal challenges (as with Robert Hur’s investigation) an effective way not just to stress, distract, and defame any non-rich politician, but also to bankrupt them or drive them out of politics completely.

The DNC said that the money they’ve paid for Biden’s legal purposes isn’t coming from their grassroots donors.

“There is no comparison – the DNC does not spend a single penny of grassroots donors’ money on legal bills, unlike Donald Trump, who actively solicits legal fees from his supporters and has drawn down every bank account he can get his hands on like a personal piggy bank,” DNC spokesperson Alex Floyd said in a statement to ABC News.

    So…

It’s billionaires, pacs, and corporations paying for Biden’s legal defense?

This is the danger of our only standard being “better than republicans”. Win or lose, as long as Republicans keep getting worse, so will Democrats.

I’m not even against public funds being used for this, but what a ridiculous point to make. Money is literally the best example of fungibility: using money from mega donors to pay for defense costs and the money from small donors to pay for rent for campaign offices is not at all different from vice versa.

Also, the scale doesn’t compare. Trump’s legal fees are insane, this is a large amount for you and me, but not in political spending

This is the danger of our only standard being “better than republicans”.

People don’t want to have the discussion on if any amount is ok, as long as it’s not as bad as republicans, that makes it ok.
