Work their asses off? Renters work 2+ jobs to make rent. Being in a position to own a home has nothing to do with hard work. The unsaid part of that argument is that people who rent don’t work as hard or else they’d own a home too, but of course this is just self serving delusions of grandeur. I have never met a landlord with multiple jobs. I have never met a landlord that does even the bare minimum for their renters. We have to fight tooth and nail to be treated by the legal bare minimum. I have never lived in a place built to code, I have never had a landlord who even glanced at the tenancy laws. I end up teaching them their jobs and they STILL don’t do it.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting financial stability. Getting it by taking a huge chunk of a poor person’s paycheque because that’s where the market is, is immoral. Having x amount of money to afford a home isn’t an indicator that you’d be a good candidate to provide a home for another human being, but it’s the only requirement.If you do that, then yes, very fuck you. If you fillow all the rules in a place built to code and charge way less than market prices, than not fuck you. Thank you.
